style="font-size:130%;color:#cc0000;">Once there lived a small little bright boy with his mother in a small village. The boy was so lovely that every person of that village always wanted that boy to be with them only. But after sometime that happy bright boy died. It was a great shock to all the villagers. The mother of that boy was completely broken. For many days she could not even speak or eat anything. Then came one wise man to that village. Knowing everything about that boy, the wise man went to meet the mother of that boy. And said few words to her- “dear, when you pick flowers for God you pick the best one; when you offer fruits to the God you choose the best ones; is not it?" The mother nodded assertively. The wise man continued- "Dear God loves the best one. We know it. We also love God with all our heart and ability. And for that we always try to secure the best offerings to the God only. Is not it?""Dear," the wise man said to the mother, "your boy was the best baby ever born in this village. You, all the villagers always wanted the companion of the boy. Because you all were charmed by that little boy. Dear, like you people God also fell in love with the little lovely boy. So He took him near Him. Let us love God more and more. Let God enjoy the little boy's company. It’s the best offer from us to our dear God. So, no more tears. I’ve returned here on the 1st of August after two months stay at Janai.
I myself sent you invitation letter of Guru-Purnima. You definitely did not get it. I am writing a poem on Advaita Vedanta. (Meditate upon it):
Only by study or deliberation
In happiness or in dejection
Can thou attain Brahmanjana
Can that be attain by act
Or is the object of intellect
Can be ascertained by inference
Or is Prameya or Praman
What do thy see, hear, and discriminate
Form, taste, sound,light and darkness
Self-conceited of being bounded and deliverance
Thyself on thy doth meditate on thyself.

To attain the Self, means the emancipation of the illusion that the Self cannot be achieved. The Self cannot be achieved or realised-all these are western doctrines such as Spencer’s Agnosticism or unknown and unknowable. Hence Sri Thakur said, “Attainable by through pure mind.”
Know my well-wishes.
Yours,
Father

<img width='1' If still criticism is needed then let us criticize our own self. The great woman Maa Sarada once told - this world is yours no one in this world is other than your own. Everybody is your own. Let us learn to make everybody our own.
Let us begin from here. Let us learn to make everybody our own, because we all are ONE.
The Upanishad chants- “ Ekam sadbipra bahuda badanti”- the ONE Brahman is described in many ways. We all are Brahman. You are Brahman too.
We all are ONE; Brahman.

SHONO BISHWABASI

SHONO BISHWABASI - the Bengali spiritual magazine published by International Vedanta Society-Kolkata. Self-discovery needs no time.
· I always search my Self in others utterly unaware of it.
· To thing my Self in different from God is atheism.
· Ignorance about the Self is death; Knowledge of the Self is Immortality.
· Want of want is Knowledge Supreme.
· Realisation is an unflickering flame whose light is called religion.
· The only way to know the vibrant world is to go beyond vibration.
· Be thoughtless; that is the Atman which is none but you.
· I am the aspirant; I am the god; I aspire of myself.
· Static and dynamic are but the states of Atman not the Atman. IVS does not stress on worshiping any God or Goddess. It believes that the all All-Powerful (Omnipotent) resides within everyone and this Omnipotent is known as Iŝvara or God.
The International Vedanta Society does not speak of any special rights for men or women because the Society believes that everyone is born with their own rights. The task is only to make one aware about it. And the medium of serving of this ideology is love.
The International Vedanta Society does not give any special preference to sannyasins or house-holders. The Society wishes to let every individual manifest their inherent divinity within. IVS believes that only Vedanta can change the trouble-tormented situation of the present day world. And that must come through love and the International Vedanta Society is spreading the message of Unity and Love. IVS appeals everyone to perform some benevolent activities everyday. Each one of us has a role to play. Let everyone play his own role.
We’ve heard many great good things in this world. But not much have been done. We must not differ in our words and actions. Here are few words of Him.

· In this world there is no hurdle but our mind.

· Be egoless and success will come automatically.

· Don’t waste time. If you really want to be reach, stop wasting time, you will have everything.

· Want to work? Earn spirituality. Then only all your work will be beautiful. So for work, we have to earn more spiritual strength.

· The world is as I see it. Earn spiritual knowledge to enjoy everything. The sages said-‘Everything is full of honey, the air, the plants, the rivers all and everything is beautiful.’

· There is only Atman. From here – I, my house, my money, my wife, and my son- all are coming. If all these go then what remains? – The one and only Atman.

· Mother summons her son who is playing in the ground, if he didn’t respond her she raises her voice, still if he didn’t respond, mother goes to the play ground and brings her son back by pulling his ears. Do you call God with this much affection?

· Love God. You haven’t loved God yet. If you really want to love God He will come to your bed even before you call Him. Don’t say you love God. You loved God through out your whole life, now you are at your old-age still God didn’t come to you? Is this your love for Him?

· Great thoughts of me signifies I am great. Narrow thoughts of me signifies I am a mean person. And when there is no thought that signifies -I am the 'Whole'. These three sentences complete the knowledge of Vedanta.

Thus Spake Bhagavan

This work “Thus Spake Bhagavan” is a compilation of the divine words of Bhagavan by His eastern and western devotees during His Varanasi visit(26TH FEB TO 25TH MAR 2006). We dedicate these invaluable inspired words to the well -being of humanity. May the vision of the new civilization of Bhagavan turn into reality. May His words be the pole star of Humanity ages to follow.

In service of Bhagavan
His Eastern and Western devotees.

Date: 5/3/06 Place: Vedanta Bhavan,
Varanasi; Time: 0600hrs
TODAY Bhagavan called all His devotees and presented Himself as Lord Shiva, the God of Knowledge and Power, to eradicate the ignorance and ego from the minds of His devotees. He said, “I have no friends and I have no enemies, I am alone. I am so beautiful because I am alone. You are following yourself, you are following your mind, you should follow me. Spirituality is the line of discipline; mental discipline. You are talking like a child. Your mind is laying with the cheapest toys, but you are sitting before a man having no mind. Your mental condition is so poor. Everyday, every moment you are depending on some subjects. Like a child you are always asking : 'Give me, give me'. Your mind is like this. Hate your mind. Nobody is disturbing you, "I" is your mind who is disturbing. What is the medicine? Hate your mind. That monkey is intoxicated, try to kill the monkey. I am so smart because I am living with truth. Money, women, name and fame are the biggest barrier".

Motto of life, ideal of life is “I want to be like you." Devotee is the main thing. God can give away His life for this. To Pedro, “There will be nobody between you and me. You will be released from the cage. I will remain here because you love me. I respect your love. When you are going to mix with God, you loose your identity. That is your true identity. I only require your pure love. Not love with desire, but pure. I want you to bend down your head not to make you slave, but to make you free. Since you are born free, you should live free, die free. Its not political or social freedom. Breakdown all this bondages, be free, tell everyone. Yes, I am a spy; I am a spy, a spy of God".

Vedanta Sadhana

                                                                      Letter-35

                 Ramakrishna Saranam
Purulia
04/07/1983
Dear,
Our soul i.e. the Self is always constant. We cannot deny our Self because it is non-imaginable, that without ‘I’ others are existing. At every moment we first accept or feel me, and then we feel others.
The body and the soul cannot be the same. Because whatever we use cannot be the user. So, the Soul uses the body and that is why, the Soul is entirely separate entity. As in the case of a coconut the Real essence is quite separate from either the water or the outer periphery.
So, Soul is the only Absolute Reality. Horns of a Dilemma begins from the inception; ‘Who am I?” – it should be a question and must be solved, if we try to answer that “I am such and such”, then I can only point out my body or the mind or the intelligence which is not at all the real explanation of “I” or the Soul. Because in reverse we do not use the body at all. Then in Deep Slumber we become ignorant of our body, mind, intelligence i.e. every thing which we use in our so called conscious state. So this sort of conscious state is no consciousness. Consciousness is always consciousness and cannot be felt. What we feel, that is state. We feel these states as conscious - it is maya or illusion. Absolute Consciousness i.e. Consciousness cannot be a state. State is a passing phenomenon. The real Consciousness i.e. Atman which is one without second is always without any state either Dynamic or Static. Relativity or Non-Relativity is applicable only to one Reality i.e. the Subject. Consciousness, Soul and Real ‘I’ are one and the same.
Try to meditate in this line.
With love,
Maharaj

VEDANTA SADHANA

                                                                              Letter-04

Sri Ramakrishna Saranam
P.O & Dist.-Purulia
West Bengal
Date-27-11-1978

My Dear,

I’ve received your letter after a long time. A thing which is specially striking me in this letter is the statements arising from disappointing and dejected mentality. The ignorant jiva (individualized living being) never admit their lapse and shortcoming as offence, moreover they try to others in their creed. I know you do not belong to that class. Rectification is only possible when one thinks himself, “I must and should rectify myself.” And rectification means Purushakara (self-exertion- as distinguished from grace) and that is austerity.

The chief means of austerity of house-holders is, “Not I”, “Not I” – “Thou”, “Thou”. There is no other way than surrendering at the feet of Sri Sri Thakur and Maa.

Swami Vivekananda’s message will be befitting for you. Read, Think, meditate and on repetition you will become. Such powerful is his words. He came to speak words of eternity and fearlessness. Hence Sri Sri Thakur said “Such a receptacle (great soul) never came before, nor will ever come after.”

So shake off all mental shakles and weakness. “We are the sons of Sri Ramakrishna.” It’s by us and by us only that this will be possible. You’ve got my photograph. It’s good. Know my best wishes.
Yours
Maharaj

VEDANTA SADHANA

                                                              Letter-03

Sri Ramakrishna Saranam
Purulia
22-08-1978
My dear,
I received your news from your letter. Had Brahman been something separate from me then achieving of Brahman as described in Shastras (scriptures) would have been identical like achieving some matters, money, fame, wife, son etc. Is it so? By which the Shastras declare thus achieving which everything is achieved – then this does not come under the category of ordinary achievable objects. Our idea of God gradually develops as our intelligence gets purified through austerity and spiritual practice. Achieving (realizing) the Self or Atman is the greatest achievement. And thus we arrive at Jnana Yoga. Now understand- what is the relation between Purushakara (self-exertion- as distinguished from grace) and grace.
Purushakara is a side of grace. The Shastras says, “The Atman cannot be achieved by the weak (Kathoponishad).” “Only those few desire the Advaita1 who are blessed with the grace of God (Avadhuta Gita).” However, you go on with your spiritual practice. Success is inevitable.
I’m waiting for your letter which you will write after completing your tour. I’m well by the benediction of Sri Maa.
Yours
Maharaj

VEDANTA SADHANA

                              Letter no-02

Sri Ramakrishna Saranam
Purulia
08-08-1978
My dear,
I was in Janai from 13th July to 4th August. I have received your letter on 5th on coming back. Carry on strongly with meditation and analysis saving your body. Adopt the middle path between extreme austerity and comfort.
Your marriage is due to the wrong actions of your previous life. Do not regret, you have to fix your goal and the real path and proceed amidst this. Success in this field is impossible without tremendous Purushakara (self-exertion- as distinguished from grace).
Read Swami Vivekananda’s Jnanayoga* very gradually and meditate on its meaning. In case of any doubt, write immediately. The word Maya** denotes the imaginary bondage of time, space and causality. God is the only Truth i.e. Reality; all else are unreal. And our idea about this God develops gradually. There is no gradual development in God. God or Brahman is unchangeable, all else are changeable.
I’m well by the grace of Sri Sri Thakur. When you’ve registered your name in Sri Ramakrishna hospital then there’s no escape. Your disease will be cured. Hence there’s chance of worry or dejection. Know my good wishes.
Yours
Swami Pavitrananda Maharaj

--------------------------------------------------------- * Published by Udbodhan, comprising a series of lectures by Swami Vivekananda in London.
**A term of Vedanta philosophy denoting ignorance which veils Reality and on account of which the one appears as many, the Absolute as the Relative.

VEDANTA SADHANA

Letter No.-01

Sri Ramakrishna Saranam
Purulia
30-6-1978
My dear,
Your letter is to hand. I may have initiated many persons but on initiating you I have got a relief or delight. My mind is filled up with pleasure having given Sannyasa or Bramacharya, but rarely have I got such delight having initiated house-holders. Do know I keep faith on you. I expect sure success in your life.
Always remember the advice of Sri Sri Thakur (Sri Ramakrishna Dev). Try to remain brother and sister after having one or two children.
Try to spend your maximum time in spiritual practice, Saranam (Remembrance) and Manana (reasoning). Of course do office work sincerely and honestly. Give stress on meditation.
Always keep a care-free idea that Sri Thakur and Maa (Srima Sarada Devi) are behind you. Never still think ill of others even by mistake. Regard equally both enemy and friend.
Sri Thakur provides energy if one thinks honest thought. Patience and perseverance is a vital part in the life of a devotee. If you go on like this for six months you will find yourself entered the world of realization.
I am well by the benediction of Sri Sri Maa. Do let me know how you all are. Know my hearty affection.
Yours ever well wisher
Maharaj

<img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5232557823948620850" style="FLOAT: left; Our desires and wishes continuously drive us from one sphere to the other, from one field to another. We identify our selves with the happiness, sadness, and the likes on our successes and failures. Being driven by the incidents of life and oscillating between good and bad, virtue and vice, we gradually pass on to the inevitable hands of death. We pass on the days accepting willing on unwilling, the results of our life which is the consequence of our hard toil or the hands of fortune as we see it. In many cases, our mind, even on disagreeing with things, cannot but just cry and groan within. Then we try to see light in darkness, good in evil, happiness in sorrow, and simply wait for the final day.
Though apparently a pessimistic view, this is a hard reality of life. That death, to elude which we had put in all endeavours, then becomes our longing. But this is not because of our love for death but to escape from dying every now and then.
But some minds revolt while passing on their usual course. They pause while leading a life which goes on in a mechanical way and try to find out the aim of this unending run. They try to find out the cause of this run, search for its ultimate goal and try to make out its meaning. Peace rather than happiness and truth rather than life becomes dearer to them. They stop oscillating between the dialectical world of happiness and sorrow and the likes and start searching for an existence which is absolute, unchangeable and infinite. Their minds are no longer attracted towards those worldly affairs of good, profit and loss and they set out for the quest for the light devine. How’s the light ? ‘Na tatra surya bharti na chandra tarakam nema vidyuto bharti kutoayam agni. Jvaneva bhantam anubhati sarvam tasya bhasa sarvamidam bibhati.’ (Kathopnisad) i.e. the sun cannot illumine Him, how can this mere fire do so ? It is because that he is illumined that all these are illumined. This is the light by whom the whole universe is illumined. Someone seems to say from the inner core of his heart to search Him, the one who is behind all this creation. There peace and bliss Absolute. Hence the mind can no longer regard this apparent truth to be real. It can no longer accept this futile life to be Absolute nor can it accept this life to be the ultimate and so it spontaneously comes out of him. “Astoma sadgamaya, tamosoma jyotirgamaya, mrityormaamritam gamaya” i.e. lead me from the unreal to the real, lead me from darkness to light, lead me from death to immortality. The calculations of this world seems to him like the child collecting pebbles on the sea sore. His mind undergoes a turmoil on realising the falsity of this world. But neither does the know the reality. As a result he becomes restless to know the truth. He thus stands on the threshold of the world of religion.
Although as per the normal tendency, the mind is first attracted towards the eternal rituals and rites but soon the inquisitive mind realises that the real is not in any external activity. He then goes for pilgrimage and site in the company of the great souls. He is then like the mad man who searches the philosopher’s stone. It is this stone which turnes iron (the individual self – Jivatman) to gold (the supreme self – Paramatman).
Though the Absolute is not achievable through any rituals or rites yet the mind gradually becomes purified. Then company of the great souls gives him a direction. He feels the necessity of the blessings of those who have tread the path prior to him. The search for Guru (the spiritual master) begins sincere search yields result. Knowing neither the beginning nor end and unable to find out the truth when the restless and turbulent mind goes in the refuge of the Real Guru, then the Guru the embodiment of compassion, speaks unto him words of hope and fearlessness – ‘Ma Bhaista vidyamstava nastyapaya, samsarasindhostara nestyapayaha, Yenaiva yata yatyoasya param, tameva margam tava nirdisami’ i.e. Fear not, O learned one! There is the way to cross this ocean of universe. that path, adopting which the great ones have in the past crossed this ocean of universe, unto thou shall I declare the path.
But is this, the tendency to escape the world due to its fear or the tendency to avoid sorrow ? Its neither of these. Its the urge to know the truth realising the world to be unreal on its analyses. There is no scope for fear in this path. Fear comes from weakness and the path of spirituality is not ment for the weak mind. Hence the Upanisads say, ‘Nayamatma balhinen lavya’ (Mundakopnisad) i.e. weak one cannot achieve the Atman or Thuth. This weakness does not refer to the physical plane but to the mental one. The weak mind or the weak brain cannot perceive the truth. Because in our quest for truth we may even come face to face with death and we must be ready to hug it. This path is thus the path of fearlessness and hence the Guru says. “fear not”. Because He knows the Truth. He has known the Existence which is beyond all the phenomenon of the universe. The knowledge of essence of the Existence beyond all uibrations is the knowledge of the Brahman (Brahmajanana). His face radiates by the radiates by the radiation of the knowledge of the supreme. He is no longer deluded by the phenomenon of this universe and is capable of showing the path to one who is ready to come out of this phenomenon tearing apart the net of illusion.
When the disciple takes refuge in the feel of Guru, the Guru assures him fearlessness. He then goes on to say that the truth which he has been searching for in pilgrimages and other places is within him and not anywhere else. It always exists in its own splendour and majesty. He has hither and thither searched in vain like the musk–deer which searches in vain the sweet smell of the musk all over the jungle knowing not that the smell emanates from its own body. In the words of the great saint Kabirdas – “ In the naval does musk reside but the deer knows not. The supreme is the body reside but the world knows not.” This etarnal peace, love divine and the beautiful smell is hidden within. The compassionate Guru makes us know about this truth. He tells us that I am the Truth which I am searching for. He tells us about the Existence which is beyond mind, intellect and ego – the existence which is eternal absolute, unchangeable and immortal. I am Existence, Knowledge and Bliss Absolute. I am atman by nature. I am searching my own Self like the tenth man who was grieved on counting his nine friends, leaning himself, and thinking that the tenth man has been drowned while swimming. The Guru at the very outset consoles and says, “Be Calm, there is nothing to be grieved for. No body is lost. Nothing is lost. The tenth man whom you were searching for and was grief – striken thinking him to be lost is your own Self. “Thou art the tenth” “That thoee art”. Thoee art the Brahman or Existence, Knowledge and Bliss Absolute. Thou art tenth embodied, Thou art Shiva (Knowledge) embodied. Thou art freedom embodied. It is here where our search ends.
The real Guru on account of his love transmits the spiritual energy in us. This knowledge is transmitted from a heart to a heart. The inherent knowledge kindles up when the spiritual power is transmitted from the heart of the Guru, who is firmly established in Truth, to the heart of the disciple. We all have consciousness within but spiritual energy makes this consciousness conscious about itself. Samadhi the ultimate stage of spirituality is then within the grip of the disciple. He is then one with the existence which is beyond all phenomenon. The secret of the spiritual world are revealed unto him. “Vidyate hridyagranthischiddante sarvasamsaya…” (Mundakopnisad) i.e. the knot of the heart is cut loose and all the doubts are dispelled. Thus the knot which has so long communicated consciousness with matters is cut asunder for ever and all the doubts is for good eradicated. His face glows with the radiation of Brahman. This world is then Brahman to him. And so he is equipoised, ‘Sarvabhutasthamatnanam sarbhutani catmani. Ikshate yogayuktatma sarvatra samdarasanah’ (Srimad Bhagavad Gita 6.29) i.e. One who sees the Self in everything and sees everything in the self such a Self realised yogi sees sameness everywhere. One who sees sameness is free from all fear. Nothing is unreal to him then. Everything to him is Truth. ‘Brahman is real the universe is real upon the real is the universe, established.’ This world is then conscious and living to him. Nowhere is then darkness. The whole universe is illumined by the light of knowledge. Nowhere is then death. The universe is Brahman and hence eternal and immortal. Drinking this nectar he gets a new life – life which is fully of enthusiasm, bliss and piece. There is no more bondage of the individual self but the freedom of the supreme. He is then creator of his destiny, the master of his own. No more is he driven by nature and on the contrary he is the ruler of nature. Shedding off all the weakness and miseries he is then All powerfull, Almighty. Transcending his finite existence, he is then all pervading, immutable and ever divine. There is no duality whatsoever in this ultimate non-dual state. And hence he is ever alone, ever fearless.
All these he finds in himself which the Guru reveals unto him. He is hence forever a servant of his Guru. But this slavery does not bind him and on the reverse cuts off all his bondages. The Guru dispelling all the ignorance of the disciple establishes him firmly in Atman or Brahman.
The one firmly rooted in the Supreme Truth then realises the first words of his Guru which were spoken unto him ‘Fear not!’ How amazingly true! Truth it is. That there is nothing to fear about. Where is there the scope of fear in Advaita (Non-dualism) or in Ajata or birth less ness where only Brahman and nothing else exists. But when another mind immersed in sorrow, distress and misery comes in his refuge he fondly remembers his Guru. Those words which were first said to him by his Guru and which he has latter realised for himself are then utterred again. So long as the human mind know knowingly or unknowingly go in a quest of truth, so long as the mind full of thirst would enquince Truth, will the words of fearlessness and trust be utterred time and again and like a steersman give direction to humanity “Fear not! There is the way to cross the ocean of universe. …… unto thou shall I declare the path.”

FLASHES FROM VEDANTA

FLASHES FROM VEDANTA

· The Goal is set; the path is laid; march on.
· Will, determination and concentration is the key to one’s Goal.
· There is nothing though. You are everything.”
· Vairagya is the degree of clinging to Truth in the adverse.
· See the Creator behind every creation.
· We are alone in this world, and the day we realize it, from that very day we gradually but surely become Perfect.
· That which helps us to overcome superstitions beliefs is religion.
· Religion is that which holds.
· Always stick to Truth.
· True religion is having full concentration on work.
· Be pure and prefect; Truth will surely perfect on you.
· Religion leads us from individual to universal.
· Complete faith is complete Knowledge.
· Our mind is nothing but a cluster of thoughts.
· We see, feel and judge others by our thoughts.
· Meditation is the thought of one.
· One becomes what one thinks.
· Never be afraid. Your Self is the only Truth. To know the Self is the Supreme Knowledge.
· Think your thought.
· The world is nothing but the apparent projection of the Self.
· Think of the Infinite, the thought will cease and you will become the Infinite.
· Each wave is but the Oscan itself.
· We are always in consciousness. The distance between us and the world in nothing but a utopia.
· We ourselves create our own world and get involved in it.
· If we are to enjoy more, we are to sacrifice our individuality.
· Fortunate are they indeed who in the Supreme Self have lost their identity.
· Observe – in you shall you find the roots of all thoughts.
· Desire the desireless.
· Sight is there as there is the Seer.
· The Seer is more true than the sight. The sight may be many but the Seer in one and indivisible.
· There is no relation between the Absolute Truth and the Relative Truth.
· Our Soul (Atman) is a stationary platform on which our desires and wants are always dancing.
· Thinking of the matter, we make ourselves cheaper.
· Is there any moment when you do not feel yourself? But you seem to feel others. This is ignorance or illusion.
· As fire consumes everything but nothing can consume fire, similarly the Atman is the Supreme knower and itself does not become an object of knowledge.
· Who has got more right than o9 to know my Self? I always use my Self and yet is not conscious of it!
· Atman is my refuge; Atman is my repose.

Bhagavan at Lake Gardens

The sweetness of words come from true KNOWLEDGE.
